For the love of God

I was recently reading in 1 John. And, today, I noticed this in 1 John 4: 9-10 (NIV), “This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

So many times at work, on TV, or just out in public places I’ve heard people say, “For the love of God!” as a way to communicate their frustration. We’re talking about the most awesome gift ever given to humanity, the love of God, packaged up all nice and beautiful in God’s one and only Son. This euphemism seems incongruent with the emotion being expressed. If the person saying this would just make it a statement of worship they would see God do miraculous things in their life.

I am so thankful for the love of God. For God’s love led Him to send Jesus into this world that we might live through him. Now that’s some good news!
