Ps 124:7-8,
Our soul has escaped as a bird out of the snare of the trapper;
The snare is broken and we have escaped.
Our help is in the name of the LORD,
Who made heaven and earth.
1,000 Years Before Jesus
This Psalm was written about 1,000 years before the birth of Jesus. Yet, even then, God was telling humanity, through Israel, through King David, that God had an escape plan for humanity.
Yes, everyone was doomed. We all sinned, so we all were condemned to the punishment God created for the angels which rebelled. When humanity exchanged the Lordship of God for the lordship of the enemy of God, our reward was eternal punishment.
The People of Adam Could Be Reborn
Still, God had an escape plan for humankind. He knew a way that would meet the requirements of justice yet provide us with a way of escape. The people of Adam could be reborn into the kingdom of God. For our payment, God would give the life of Jesus, the only begotten of the Father.
The wrath of God too would be poured out and spent upon Jesus, the sacrificial Lamb. God’s wrath sated, forgiveness also would be made available through the death and burial of Jesus, but hope for eternal life would be made through Christ’s resurrected, the first fruit of our hope.
Yes, the escape plan was elaborate. Yes, the escape plan would cost God more than we can conceive. Yes, it would change eternity for the Son and Father throughout eternity had never been separated, but this escape plan required a separation. This separation would be pain beyond our understanding and a sacrifice beyond all things. But God was determined to recover the creation which had been given away on a whim
Prayer
Prayer: Oh, Father, help me to give everything to you. All the good, the bad, my hopes and dreams, my fears and shame, my success and failure, my praise and reputation, that which I’ve earned and that which I’ve taken, all that I’ve received and all that I’ve coveted, my talents and my inabilities, my weaknesses and my strengths, my loved ones and my enemies. To You, Father, I give them all.
To say I gave it all but to hold back anything would be like Ananias and Sapphira, I would lie to the Holy Spirit. So, my Lord Jesus, search me as one who is Your servant. Help me, so these things I’ve told my Father are genuine and sincere. It is in Your Name, Lord Jesus, that I pray. Amen
