This is where I add notes and thoughts as I study the Bible. Please feel free to comment.
There’s an old SNL joke about something that smelled disgusting. So, each person in the room past it to the next and said, “Smell this. It’s horrid.” And each person did. Well, I’m about to do the same thing to you. I just read a quote that both shocked and saddened me. Here, read it:
Sleep is good, death is better, the best thing would to have never been born at all.Â
Heinrich Heine
Is it better to not have been born and lose out on God’s marvelous love? Of course not. Life is hard, more for some, but some for all. So let me speak plainly: There is nothing on earth, below the earth, or in heaven above, that is better than to be known by Jesus and to be on the receiving end of God’s love.
It is better than having never been born. Far better than death (separation from God), and way, way better than sleep – and I highly regard sleep! As my father-in-law would say, “It’s better than a sack of $100 bills!”
Receive Jesus. Receive God’s love. Receive that joy unspeakable and full of glory! Don’t think like Heinrich Heine! And don’t forget to pass this along to the next person. 😉
