In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered
Luke 2:1, 4-5
God’s Word is amazing. Today is the first time I saw the arrogance of Caesar’s decree in this verse. In Caesar’s eyes, he ruled the world. With the stroke of a pen, Caesar Augustus thought his will would be done throughout the whole world. In this decree, God chose to have a command from the “ruler of the world” bring Jesus, the Savior and Hope of the world, to Bethlehem, His prophesied birthplace. (Micah 5:2, Matthew 2:4–6)
How cautious we need to be in all we say and do. As the Apostle Paul wrote, “I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think.” (Romans 12:3)
