Clean Feet

Pastor Mark Driscoll (@PastorMark on X.com) made a profound comment about the “He Gets Us” Super Bowl ad.

Jesus did wash feet. He washed the feet of a guy named Judas Iscariot before He sent him to hell. Some of you are going to hell with clean feet. But that’s not an upgrade.¹

Jesus warned his followers to “be wise as serpents and innocent as doves².” And the Apostle John said, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.” People can say things that feel good and seem right, but those things were conceived in evil and intended for deception.

We live in a time when we can’t trust that the intentions of people are good, even if their actions fall short of God’s commands. No, we live in a time when we are continually awash in intentions that are wicked because they come from people who try to make God in their own images, in images of wickedness, but we have nothing to fear.

For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.

Guard your children; guard yourselves. Don’t assume that pleasant things or things that sound good should be believed. Satan is a liar, the father of lies³, and that’s what we hear 24×7.
