Jesus was born in Bethlehem1. His Father is God. The Holy Spirit conceived Jesus in His mother, Mary2, who was a virgin. Jesus’s Spirit is the Spirit of God3. Jesus is with God and is God4. He is the Son of God5 and the Son of Man6. Jesus has always existed7. He said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.” And Jesus said He is God: “I and the Father are one8.”

Christians Love Easter

We are happy and celebrate Easter Sunday because Jesus did what His Father commanded Him to do9. Jesus did not live a selfish life. He said many times that He only did what His Father told Him10. Jesus obeyed His Father because Jesus trusted His Father. And Jesus did the things that He saw His Father do11.

The most important thing Father God asked Jesus to do was to make a way for people to not miss out on where God wanted them to be—that is, forever with Him in heaven, when their lives are over12. You see, you can’t go to heaven unless you receive Jesus as your Savior13. We will say more about this in a few moments.

To obey His Father, Jesus had to suffer for all of the wrong things that were ever done, or ever would be done by people14. Jesus then had to die on the cross and be buried. Three days later, the Father brought Jesus back to life15! This happened just the way Father God told Jesus it would happen16. And Jesus was not surprised because He knew He could count on His Father17.

It’s A Matter of Trust

Today, Jesus tells us to trust Him18 and have only one purpose for our lives: to live for Him19. To live for Jesus means that we have only one motive. That motive is always to trust and obey Jesus. By studying the Bible, listening to sermons, and talking with church leaders, we find out what Jesus wants us to do20. We also need to talk with Jesus. Christians call this prayer. You can talk to Him because your trust is in Him21. When you have a need, Jesus told us to ask Father God for it in His name22.

We know we are living for Jesus when every decision we make is based on trusting Him23, just as He trusts His Father24.

When we have the single motivation to live for Jesus, then some amazing things happen. Decisions become easier. We ask ourselves, does this decision move me closer to Jesus or away from Jesus? Leaning into Jesus is always the tie-breaker.

As Christians—that is the name we call ourselves25—each of us has just the right talents to do what Jesus wants us to do. He gave us our talents to be used together with the talents of other Christians to create and grow His Church26.

Point of Decision

So, I have made my decision. I received Jesus as my Savior, have you made yours? It is a simple, but life-changing choice. Believe that Jesus is Lord. The word “Lord” means owner27. You can either be owned by the world, which wants to kill you or be owned by Jesus, who wants to care for you28.

You ask Him to be your Lord by talking to Him and surrendering your life to Him. If you choose Jesus, then you need to tell people about your decision. Find a church and tell the people you gave your life to Jesus29.

This is what Easter is all about.
