Isn’t it difficult to wait for God? To sit or kneel in quiet solitude, struggling to quell the storms in your heart, working to unclutter your mind, as if to make room for the Holy Spirit to put there what you wait upon Him for?
As you wait, lean into Jesus, the One who saved you, the One who has never failed you. You may have the fleeting thought, “Have I become unworthy for Him to hear my plea, to meet me in this hour?” Take courage!! It is not how good you are but how perfect Jesus is.
Yes, it is our duty to live blameless, holy lives. Still, God knows our hearts. Elevation Worship has a great praise song titled “Trust In God1.” Here are the opening verse and chorus.
Blessed Assurance, Jesus is mine
He’s been my fourth man in the fire, time after time
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood
And what He did for me on Calvary is more than enough
I trust in God, my Savior
The one who will never fail
He will never fail
I trust in God, my Savior
The one who will never fail
He will never fail
Listen quietly. As Psalms 37:7 NLT says, “Be still in the presence of the LORD, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes.” God answers prayers. None of us are worthy of His grace, yet He still gives to us what we have not earned. We still fail, yet His mercies are still new every morning2.
When you become His, He will never fail you. He will never abandon you3. Wait patiently for Him. He honors those who, by faith, quiet themselves and wait for Him to act in His timing, in His way. Remind yourself how many times Jesus has been the fourth man with you in the fires of life.
