A broken window frames the silhouette of a man approaching a woman's silhouette.

While reading Exodus 14, I reached verse five, which describes Pharaoh’s decision not to allow the Israelites to leave Egypt. Although the plagues and his son’s death convinced him of the power of the God of Israel, he still attempted to halt their departure.

Like many people, Pharaoh was convinced of the reality of the One True God, but he was not converted. Conversion means having been born of the Spirit. In John 3:5, Jesus said, “I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit.”

Being born of water refers to the moment our mothers brought us into the world. Being born of the Spirit signifies our transformation into a new creation. This transformation must occur before our actions reflect our reborn nature. Without this change, we only display a Christian veneer, easily shattered by trouble or temptation.

True conversion, as explained in John 3:5, involves being spiritually reborn, which leads to authentic actions that reflect that transformation. Knowing whether one is committed or converted is essential.
