You know that person inside you. The one who tried to be heard by your step-dad, who tried to be seen by “their” child, the one who is still trying, maybe a little too much, to earn respect from emotionally deaf and blind people? Yeah, I need to write to you today.
The moment I asked the Holy Spirit to help me point someone to Jesus, I pictured brokenness. I felt it. God desires to mend the brokenhearted. God’s Word overflows with compassion for people who are hurt, whether visibly or buried under years of pain.
First, know that everything in life changes except Jesus. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.1” A life built upon Christ will never be destroyed2. You will experience sorrow and disappointment and loss, but “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.3”
Remember, God’s message to hurting people has never changed. The Holy Spirit moved King David to write, “Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.4 ” and “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength..5” God’s promises are anchored in righteousness; Jesus is our righteousness6.
God loves you. His love is perfect. He has no hidden agendas, no plans to make you feel ashamed, no desire to make you angry. Go ahead, “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.7” He will never leave or forsake you8.
So, tell that person inside you that you are loved by the most influential Person in the whole universe! He loves you so much that He’s building you a home so you and He can live close together. Oh, and all of the hurt and pain you suffered, there’s coming a day when it won’t even bring tears to your eyes!
