Today, I read Christ’s parable of the ten minas. A mina was equal to 60 shekels, but that’s not my point.
In Luke 13:21, we read about the person who did nothing with the money the king gave him to invest. This person’s excuse was, “I was afraid.” After Adam sinned, he told God, “I was afraid.” Abraham was afraid and foolish when he went to Egypt. Elijah was afraid of Jezebel. The apostles were afraid when Jesus slept while their boat was caught in a storm. The Bible is full of people who made bad or faithless decisions when they were afraid.
When we experience foolish fear, we should declare out loud, “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you (God).” (Psalms 56:3) “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7)
Interestingly, each time an angel appeared to a child of God, they first said, “Don’t be afraid.” So, I encourage you to trust God and not fear circumstances. God is not constrained by time or circumstances.
