You Need DUGs in Your Life
Before starting their day, Godly Dads, Uncles, and Grandpas get up early to pray for you and for your family. Often, they stay up late, after everyone else has gone to bed, to pray for God to help them be more like Jesus so they can be a blessing to others.
Some are fixers, some comforters, some playful, some adventurers, but all defenders. They fix bicycles, bracelets, and broken dreams, or at least make them better. Some are the ones you run to when toes are stubbed, hearts are broken, or egos are crushed. Many are playful, and some lead you on grand adventures.
Their presence brings a sense of security and serenity into your homes. And they bring love, be it quiet, boisterous, or playful; it is always strong love. That is how God created men to be.
Gardens
The book of Genesis says, “The Lord God took Adam and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.”
“To work it” meant that Adam was to make the garden a place where everything that had life could flourish. And “to keep it” meant he was to protect it. He was not to allow anything to come into the garden that would hurt or steal or deceive. He failed and suffered an unimaginable loss. This lesson is one every dad, uncle, and grandpa must learn.
The responsibility is to “work and protect” their gardens. You are in their gardens. There may be times when you think one of them isn’t paying enough attention to you. But he is not ignoring you. He is just needed in another part of his garden. Don’t worry. He is still praying for you. You know this because you know he loves you and cares for everyone in his garden.
Kingdom
A protected garden is like a kingdom. The king defends it and provides everything needed for his kingdom to flourish. Jesus spoke of the kingdom of God. In one place, He said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” And Jesus said that He is the gate that opens into the Father’s kingdom.
”I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.”
DUG
You need DUGs in your life. You may have one who isn’t loving, kind, or gentle. That person is not how God created these men to be. They should love and adore you the way Jesus does. Your life will be better for it. And if you have a DUG caring for you, give him a hug and let him know you love him. Those hugs are better than a box of chocolates. I know because I’m a DUG.
