Worn Out
When my son-in-law came to me to ask for my daughter’s hand in marriage, I sat down with him to discuss his request. One insight I shared with him about my daughter was that words and good intentions were meaningless to her.
If he wanted to tell my daughter that he loved her then it would take action and sacrifice on his part. I said, “Go wash her car. Complete some of the tasks on her “honey-do” list. Make the bed or do the dishes. Do things for her that demonstrate that you are willing to give up your time and energy for her.” That is how she will know you love her.
This same concept is true with God. We are in a relationship with God. He gave His only begotten Son as a sacrifice to pay the price for my sin so that I could be in a relationship with Him.
God has the same desire and intent for a relationship as He had when He created Man and Woman, but how do I show my appreciation? Do I move my love for “the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 1:3) beyond just words and launch out into action? Sadly, I don’t always. Have I recently worn myself out in prayer? No, yet I understand that this is something Jesus desires. Just read what He said in Isaiah 43.
“Yet you have not called on me, Jacob, you have not wearied yourselves for me, Israel.”
Isaiah 43:22
Prayer: My Lord and my God (John 20:28), how I long for the Holy Spirit’s refreshing, but why would I ask for that when I am unwilling to spend the time before you that you desire? Help me to wear myself out before You, I pray.
