Today, as I was praying, I thought of the power of a dot. Written Hebrew doesn’t contain punctuation; there are no dots! This lack of punctuation has caused translators no small inconvenience.
A period (i.e., dot) is perhaps the strongest ending we can impose upon a sentence. In English, we have symbols such as semicolons, colons, question marks, and exclamation marks, but the smallest symbol is the . , which causes a full stop to the thought contained in a sentence.
Someday, God will put a dot on my life. Some men die before they’re born, and some, like my dad and father-in-law, live into their nineties. But make no mistake, none of us get out of here alive. There is a dot on God’s calendar for every one of us, and that’s as it should be. Jesus is the only person who never sinned. The rest of us deserve to have our bodies die because we all have sinned. And we deserve God’s eternal punishment.
But now he [God] has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation—
While I’m on this side of my dot, my life gets better every day. I have stories I love to tell and memories I cherish. I have my wife and so many people who fill my heart with joy. The trajectory of my life has been strongly affected by the quality of people God has put in my life. The most important person is Christ Jesus because He delivered me from God’s punishment and made my spirit alive.
When my dot comes, it isn’t just the end of my “life sentence.” [That didn’t come out right 😀 ] God has a whole new story for me on the other side of my dot. I pray that the same is true for you.
