Do You Remember?

Woman crying

Ludwig van Beethoven said, “Music is the mediator between the spiritual and the sensual life.” I know that music can be a bridge to the divine; that is why the Apostle Paul wrote:

addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart,

Music can stir life in a dog-eared message. That is what happened to me recently. I was minding my business while Christian music played in the background. Suddenly, I heard, “Do you remember the time your heart was moved to tears?”

Do You Remember?

I stopped what I was doing and looked up the song. It was written by Brian Keith Thomas, Amy Grant, and Vince Gill and recorded by Amy Grant. What stopped me was a question that popped into my mind. Did I remember the time? That was something I hadn’t thought about for quite a while.

I write devotionals, lead a men’s group at church, and often talk with individuals about Jesus and salvation, but I realized that it had been too long since I looked back on my time when my heart was moved to tears.

My moment was not when I first received Jesus. My salvation was when I was young, but my faith was real. Still, as I entered my teenage years, I wandered away from Jesus and went to the dead to look for life. Ironically, the most successful band I played in was called “Life,” but it wasn’t.

Then, after my life was a shipwreck, a friend told me about Jesus. All of my pent-up guilt flooded out. I knew I was living a sinful life; I repented, and Christ Jesus restored me. That was the time when my heart was moved to tears.

Here is verse one of Amy Grant’s song:

Do you remember the time your heart was moved to tears?
Can you look back on the moment after all these years?
On the moment love broke through and heaven seemed so near
Do you remember the time your heart was moved to tears?

You can listen to the song on YouTube

Maybe Never

You undoubtedly have your own song that takes you back to your encounter with Jesus. Andrae Crouch’s “Take Me Back” is another powerful song the Holy Spirit uses to bridge us to the divine.

If you haven’t had that moment when you let Jesus into your life, now is a great time to do that. If you need some guidance, please read my post, No matter what…
