Sometime before Creation, God held a meeting with Himself. Not as schizophrenics talk to themselves; He is one God1, three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. So, the Father, Son, and Spirit decided to make Creation.
It was decided that Jesus, the Son2, would be the Creator3. A takeaway from this meeting was that Jesus, as the Word of God, would speak Creation into existence. And because Jesus created all things4 He is the Heir of all things5; all things are part and parcel of His kingdom.
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.
He is the creator of His kingdom. And through His birth in Bethlehem, He is of His kingdom.
All Things
The “all things” in this passage mean everything: visible things, like the Earth, the stars, and DNA, and invisible things, like the laws of physics, the offices of thrones and dominions, as well as rulers and authorities.
Jesus, the Messiah born in Bethlehem, is the first-born of every creature6, head of the church7, the beginning, the firstborn of the dead8. These things testify to Christ’s authority over all of His kingdom. Jesus, as the Son of God9 and the Son of Man10.
For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.
How Do I Relate?
I know that all Scripture is profitable to me11, but what should I do with these truths about Jesus? To find the answer to this question, let’s consider the facts:
- Jesus spoke all of Creation into existence.
- Jesus’ Creation is His kingdom.
- Jesus’ kingdom is all that is seen and unseen.
- Jesus is the heir of His kingdom.
- Jesus created all things for Himself (for him)12.
- Jesus holds all of Creation together13.
- Jesus is in every aspect of His kingdom.
- Jesus has all authority over all of His kingdom.
- Jesus is the firstborn of every creature.
- Jesus is the head of the Church.
- Jesus is the beginning.
- Jesus is the firstborn of the dead.
- In Jesus Christ dwells the fullness of God.
- Jesus reconciled (i.e., reconnected) to Himself all things (that were separated from Him by fall of man).
- Jesus’ blood continues to make peace by the blood on His cross.
Based on these facts, I know I live in peace as a believer in Jesus. I no longer am under the judgment to come upon the rebellion in Christ’s kingdom because the King has pardoned my sins14. Therefore, when I pray, I ask Father God in the Name of Jesus15, the King of Creation. I ask through my faith in Jesus and therefore have confidence16 that God will hear my prayer and answer according to His good pleasure17 and love18.
